Top 5 fall-winter 2012/13 looks from Paris

 
I’ve given you one week to digest – think of me as your Fashion Week Pepto Bismol. Not to compare fine fashion to food-induced heartburn, think of it rather as a feast of fine cuisine. Paris did not break the bank this year, with forty shows and approximately one thousand outfits up for scrutiny.

Riccardo Tisci, left with an insatiable appetite even after draping Madonna in Givenchy haute couture for her American SuperBowl half-time performance, managed to deliver a collection worthy of the top spot in the fall/winter 2012-13 rankings. Also noteworthy is that his man-skirt will be the first ever featured on this blog. Bravo.

This new heir to the throne of the top spot emphasizes the difference in the rankings from last year: although met with positive reviews last June, the Smalto show was unfortunately cancelled and its black colour was relegated to the last rows of the Dior Homme show. But above all, the most puzzling feat of this years fashion week is the disappearance of the lovely Ann Demeulemeester, without any look featured after a peak of 4 last year. The queen of my previous lists has finally fallen. Acne (as always), Maison Martin Margiela, Mugler and Lanvin, in this order, have usurped her throne.

More stunned than dazzled, my head has turned a lot this week. But fortunately it’s still standing on my shoulders.

 
Non qu’elle soit l’occasion d’excès alimentaires – ce serait même plutôt l’inverse, quelques jours de répit ne sont jamais superflus après l’indigestion d’une semaine de la mode. Paris n’échappe pas à la règle cette saison, avec une quarantaine de défilés et près d’un millier de tenues à scruter le temps d’un passage chronométré.

Etourdie plus qu’éblouie, la mienne a beaucoup tourné cette semaine ; mais touchée n’est pas coupée.

Dearest readers, my innate sense of self-mockery is no secret to you. But that of Lanvin’s 2011/12 Fall-Winter campaign will definitely surprise you.

In a video sampling Pitbull’s « I know you want me », Stefan Meisel make use of the (uno, dos, tres) quartet Rackel Zimmerman, Lowell Tautchin, Milo Spijkers and Karen Elson. The awkwardly swaying hips of the latter reminds me more of Glee’s Emma Pillsburry. The final result is just like the video finale – hilarious.

Between male and female models, fees are different but as for choreography, everybody is in the same house: Lanvin.

 
Fidèles lecteurs, mon sens inné de l’autodérision n’a plus vraiment de secret pour vous. Celui de la campagne Automne Hiver 2011-2011 de la maison Jeanne Lanvin vous surprendra certainement en revanche.

Mannequin hommes et femmes, comme toujours les cachets diffèrent mais question chorégraphie, tout le monde est habillé à la même enseigne : Lanvin.

Top 12 sping-summer 2012 looks from Paris

Belgium may not have had a head of government for over a year now, however it is still maintained by a matriarch. With three looks presented in this edited-down selection, Ann Demeulemeester’s latest outing takes the crown as my favorite collection this season yet again. Acne also aces the fashion game, albeit in a whole other manner. Veronique Nichanian’s collection for Hermès remains a sure bet, qualifying two of it’s looks on to the list- it is mostly thanks to the presence of a Haut-à-courroies bag (a BEB staple) that one of them got there in the second place.

To start with, there were more than one thousand, now I have edited them down to barely 12. And if you thought that for even one second I would require your votes to make this drastic selection, you forget that here it is I who am king!

 
Certes, la Belgique n’a plus de gouvernement depuis près d’un an, mais sa Reine règne toujours, tête haute. Avec trois looks représentés dans cette cabine resserrée, Ann Demeulemeester demeure, cette saison encore, ma collection préférée. Dans un style très différent, Acné réalise également un sans-faute. La maison Hermès demeure quant à elle une valeur sûre et parvient à qualifier deux ensembles. C’est à la faveur d’une pièce maîtresse, un sac Haut-à-courroies, que l’un d’entre eux se hisse même sur le podium.

Ils étaient au départ plus d’un millier… Il n’en reste plus que 12. Et si vous songiez un instant que j’allais solliciter vos suffrages pour opérer cette drastique sélection de looks printemps-été 2012, c’est commettre la grossière erreur d’oublier que le Roi, ici, c’est moi !
