You can’t miss it. There is not a single magazine that hasn’t featured Prada’s 2012 spring-summer collection. Retro prints, disco studs, something for all tastes. While my dear Brieuc adores his new golf shoes and Pelayo Diaz stays in his pyjamas all day, I follow the lead of a number of editorials on this very sough-after sky blue and beige jacket from the show. On this same studs trend, I have already been rejected by the Burberry jacket which I had already fallen in love with. I’ll resist feeding my hope of ever seeing the fruit of my new Pradaddiction again, other than on glossy magazine paper.

 
Vous n’avez pas pu la manquer. Pas un magazine qui ne mette à l’honneur la collection printemps-été 2012 de la maison Prada. Imprimés vintage, picots discos, il y en a presque pour tous les goûts. Alors que mon cher Brieuc adore ses nouvelles chaussures de golf et que Pelayo Diaz ne quitte plus son pijama, j’ai jeté mon dévolu à l’instar de nombre d’éditorialistes sur la très courue veste ciel et beige du défilé. Dans cette même piquante idée de picots, déjà éconduit par la veste Burberry à laquelle j’avais pourtant crié mon amour, je ne nourris guère d’espoir quant à l’idée de revoir un jour le fruit de ma nouvelle pradaddiction ailleurs que sur papier glacé.

You are currently in one of two predicaments, maybe both, at the end of this holiday season: lifeless abdominal muscles, the motivation behind new years resolutions or empty wallet syndrome, the consequences of your inconsequential spending.

Milan and Paris fashion weeks approach, you have a lot of work to do. What can be done? Seek a loan from the IMF? Cancel Jean-Paul Gautier to take advantage of sales?

Based on the same themes and my favourite colour, I have selected three different pieces, which are highly desired and will likely be on sale soon.

The first is a 100% wool navy jacket from APC with an off-white sheep collar.

Another option, spotted at Sandro Homme and which I’ve often seen worn around town: also a navy jacket, wool and polyamide with a similar removable sheep collar.

An exceptional piece to conclude, signed by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint-Laurent. A very beautiful blue leather, this fur-collared aviator jacket will delight the eyes of any circle or square with privileged shoulders.

Regardless of how far into the red, everyone has his own budget. After all, money is made to be spent, akin to the burning of grease in the candles of yesteryear.

En deux mots – certes bien trouvés, le bilan alarmant que je dresse de votre situation au sortir des fêtes de fin d’année : abdominaux morts-nés, fruits de vos (trop) bonnes résolutions passées ; porte-monnaie exsangue, conséquence de vos inconséquences répétées.

Quoique tous déjà déficitaires, à chacun son budget ! Après tout, l’argent comme la graisse sont faits pour être dépensés.

Mr. Boy-Next-Door, I understand that sequins are not really your cup of tea. And dancing in a sequin outfit, underlining the stoutness just around your navel is something only Beyoncé can pull off. The sequin jacket would not do anything for you.

But, loyal reader, you may henceforth disregard the elementary rules of fashion assortments – I, today, consider you capable of progressing to the next stage with your wardrobe: ‘fearless’.

And what better occasion to don sequins than New Year’s Eve? If you were unconvinced by the allure of the leopard previously, it’s not too late to catch up in the ‘fearless’ section of your closet.

In 2011, the cruise collection of Chanel, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, was in charge of pushing the envelope in the sequin trend for men, after Dolce & Gabbana rolled out the red carpet this winter. Editorials ensued, and presented a well earned place for both colors of the Italian proposal – an embroidered tuxedo jacket : in black-coward or in rose-j’ose.

I, personally, chose a side in the debate this summer, opting for a bluish Chanel jacket – which, you may remember, I kept quiet. As for you, the mystery remains: how far would you go for fashion?

 
Monsieur-tout-le-monde, je conçois fort bien que le pailleté ne soit pas votre tasse de thé. Vous caresser le nombril en dansant pour souligner votre embonpoint comme Beyoncé sa grossesse ne serait pas du meilleur effet. Et la veste à paillettes ne sauverait rien, loin s’en faut.

Si j’ai personnellement tranché le débat dès cet été et opté – tu, vous vous en souvenez – pour une pièce Chanel bleutée, ne demeure en ce qui vous concerne qu’un seul mystère à élucider : jusqu’où iriez vous pour la mode ?

Though it is a staple within the female wardrobe, leopard is not an endemically feminine species. It is stealthy, maintaining its presence in various seasons for a long time. YSL padded moccasins are currently attempting to raid on hostile territory – men’s fashion. Still, it was necessary to wait for Numero Magazine as well as a Gucci fur jacket to see the cat in the wild. But, faster than a lion’s roar, it turned out to be as domesticated as an ordinary cat. Givenchy, Trussardi, studded and perched on Loubi – it’s fairly apparent that man has tamed the beast (or vice versa). Touches of ferocity can be elegant, but a badly tamed feline can quickly become tacky. The contrary was proven by Paul & Joe this winter, with an elegant suit drenched in leopard spots. And it was high time, as another predator is watching…

Familier du vestiaire féminin, le léopard n’en est pas pour autant une espèce endémique. Depuis quelques saisons maintenant et après avoir longtemps guetté, c’est à pas de velours – mocassins Yves Saint-Laurent aux coussinets, qu’il tente une incursion en territoire hostile : celui de la mode masculine. Certes, il a fallu encore attendre Numéro Magazine et une veste Gucci en fourrure pour voir le fauve bondir en couverture. Mais en moins de temps qu’il n’en faut pour rugir, il s’est fait presque aussi banal qu’un vulgaire chat. Givenchy, Trussardi, perché-clouté sur des Loubi’ : aux lions la bête sauvage, l’homme l’avait apprivoisée. S’en fut trop pour celui qui, hissé en étendard du bling, n’était pas sorti du placard, devrais-je écrire de sa cage, pour se laisser ainsi domestiquer. Alors, pour prévenir l’allergie sans entrer en hibernation, le léopard a su faire le dos rond et preuve de discrétion. C’est que l’abus de taches conduit droit à la vulgarité. Si élégant soit-il par petites touches, félin mal-dompté peut vite se faire félon. La preuve contraire par Paul & Joe cet hiver, où d’un élégant costume complet-moucheté, l’animal reprend du poil de la bête. Et il était grand temps, car un autrement dangereux prédateur guette…
