I’ve given you one week to digest – think of me as your Fashion Week Pepto Bismol. Not to compare fine fashion to food-induced heartburn, think of it rather as a feast of fine cuisine. Paris did not break the bank this year, with forty shows and approximately one thousand outfits up for scrutiny.

Ricardo Tisci, left with an insatiable appetite even after draping Madonna in Givenchy haute couture for her American SuperBowl half-time performance, managed to deliver a collection worthy of the top spot in the fall/winter 2012-13 rankings. Also noteworthy is that his man-skirt will be the first ever featured on this blog. Bravo.

This new heir to the throne of the top spot emphasizes the difference in the rankings from last year: although met with positive reviews last June, the Smalto show was unfortunately cancelled and its black colour was relegated to the last rows of the Dior Homme show. But above all, the most puzzling feat of this years fashion week is the disappearance of the lovely Ann Demeulemeester, without any look featured after a peak of 4 last year. The queen of my previous lists has finally fallen. Acne (as always), Maison Martin Margiela, Mugler and Lanvin, in this order, have usurped her throne.

More stunned than dazzled, my head has turned a lot this week. But fortunately it’s still standing on my shoulders.

 
Non qu’elle soit l’occasion d’excès alimentaires – ce serait même plutôt l’inverse, quelques jours de répit ne sont jamais superflus après l’indigestion d’une semaine de la mode. Paris n’échappe pas à la règle cette saison, avec une quarantaine de défilés et près d’un millier de tenues à scruter le temps d’un passage chronométré.

Etourdie plus qu’éblouie, la mienne a beaucoup tourné cette semaine ; mais touchée n’est pas coupée.

La publication a beau être en sommeil, pas les mannequins, venus nombreux et pas des moindres fêter l’ouverture de la semaine parisienne de la mode masculine lors de la soirée Guapo Magazine donnée ce vendredi au Club 1979.

Le couvert est remis dès le lendemain soir au Social Club, où Dior Homme et son directeur artistique Kris Van Assche recevaient également tout ce beau monde, ma foi, après trois jours de défilés, dans un tout aussi un bel état…

It was in the heart of castle in which the Countess de Segur wrote pages of « Sophie’s Misfortunes » that I had the privilege of being invited to spend a weekend, an invitation received from one of the most important luxury groups in the world in partnership with my school.

The weekend schedule included delicious gastronomic meals, meetings and artistic workshops – making for an extremely merry overnight stay in the hotel of the Castle of Mery-sur-Oise.

While I was previously scheduled to attend Milan fashion week, kindly find attached some cards as documentary evidence of my absence.

Milan and Paris fashion weeks approach, you have a lot of work to do. What can be done? Seek a loan from the IMF? Cancel Jean-Paul Gautier to take advantage of sales?

Based on the same themes and my favourite colour, I have selected three different pieces, which are highly desired and will likely be on sale soon.

The first is a 100% wool navy jacket from APC with an off-white sheep collar.

Another option, spotted at Sandro Homme and which I’ve often seen worn around town: also a navy jacket, wool and polyamide with a similar removable sheep collar.

An exceptional piece to conclude, signed by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint-Laurent. A very beautiful blue leather, this fur-collared aviator jacket will delight the eyes of any circle or square with privileged shoulders.

Regardless of how far into the red, everyone has his own budget. After all, money is made to be spent, akin to the burning of grease in the candles of yesteryear.

En deux mots – certes bien trouvés, le bilan alarmant que je dresse de votre situation au sortir des fêtes de fin d’année : abdominaux morts-nés, fruits de vos (trop) bonnes résolutions passées ; porte-monnaie exsangue, conséquence de vos inconséquences répétées.

Quoique tous déjà déficitaires, à chacun son budget ! Après tout, l’argent comme la graisse sont faits pour être dépensés.

But, loyal reader, you may henceforth disregard the elementary rules of fashion assortments – I, today, consider you capable of progressing to the next stage with your wardrobe: ‘fearless’.

And what better occasion to don sequins than New Year’s Eve? If you were unconvinced by the allure of the leopard previously, it’s not too late to catch up in the ‘fearless’ section of your closet.

In 2011, the cruise collection of Chanel, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, was in charge of pushing the envelope in the sequin trend for men, after Dolce & Gabbana rolled out the red carpet this winter. Editorials ensued, and presented a well earned place for both colors of the Italian proposal – an embroidered tuxedo jacket : in black-coward or in rose-j’ose.

I, personally, chose a side in the debate this summer, opting for a bluish Chanel jacket – which, you may remember, I kept quiet. As for you, the mystery remains: how far would you go for fashion?

 
Monsieur-tout-le-monde, je conçois fort bien que le pailleté ne soit pas votre tasse de thé. Vous caresser le nombril en dansant pour souligner votre embonpoint comme Beyoncé sa grossesse ne serait pas du meilleur effet. Et la veste à paillettes ne sauverait rien, loin s’en faut.

Si j’ai personnellement tranché le débat dès cet été et opté – tu, vous vous en souvenez – pour une pièce Chanel bleutée, ne demeure en ce qui vous concerne qu’un seul mystère à élucider : jusqu’où iriez vous pour la mode ?

Disdainful pouting and haughtiness was more thane enough for Lana Del Rey to seduce me. If you doubt, her atypical voice, the calibrated direction of Yoann Lemoine and the luxurious set of her « Born to Die » video cannot be ignored. In fact, the castle sheltering the city of my birth, Fontainebleu, is where she recreates the chilling era of royal pretention, sexily, of course, charming with her lips.

Her eponymic album, not in need of advertisement, is to be released on 30 January – with the American singer’s success already promised by her omnipresent fellow countrymen. I wish her all the best (and evil).

On hurlerait au blasphème à la seule lecture du titre en ce jour de célébration de la nativité. Loin de moi cette idée. Voilà simplement fort longtemps que je ne vous avais pas parlé musique. Ce n’est certes pas l’objet premier du blog. Seulement le plaisir de vous faire partager ma récente découverte était-il trop grand pour rester sur la faim de mon précédent billet musical – ou la tentative de Baptiste Giabiconi d’adjoindre le 6ème art à son arc.
